Allen Knowles, eldest son of Winslow L. Knowles, was one
of the ''Men of Iron," who commanded the formidable
"Packet Ships" that were legendary for the ferocity
or there crews. As a member of this elite profession,
he shared in all the glamour and privileges this exhaled
position entailed. And as part owner of one of the great
Clipper/Packets of the time - the Chariot of Fame - he
somehow held these crews down during his fantastic voyages
to virtually every corner of the globe....

East-Coast ports.
Then
he became "Man of Mystery". After the tragic death
of his wife, he first disappearded into the gold fields of
California, then disappeared into the fabulous and exotic
world of the East Indies. living a Rudyard Kipling lifestyle
on the high seas, he commanded ships until his death in Calcutta
in 1863.
